Blooms to welcome baby
Whether you’re visiting a new mom and baby in the hospital or popping by to say hi at home, flowers are a great way to welcome a new baby to the world and show Mom you’re thinking of her.
Traditionally, visitors bring a bouquet of roses in a soft color like pink or peach when they visit the new baby. A few sprigs of Baby’s Breath make the bouquet even more special. Another popular choice is seasonal flowers like:
- Spring: Tulips, daffodils, daisies,
- Summer: Gladiola, peonies, sunflowers
- Fall: Asters, carnations, irises
- Winter: Chrysanthemums, poinsettias, amaryllis
Remember, many hospitals won’t allow visitors to bring lilies as the strong scent causes respiratory problems for some patients. If you’re not sure where to begin with baby flowers, ask the florist. They’ll have lots of great ideas and will be able to work with your budget. Don’t forget to include a card welcoming the new arrival! Your card can be a sweet addition to a baby keepsake like a scrapbook or memory box.
If you’re looking for something different than traditional baby flowers, why not bring in a bouquet of colorful helium balloons? Most hospitals won’t allow latex balloons, but shiny Mylar bouquets are perfectly acceptable. The other benefit of Mylar balloons is that they last longer than latex. When Mom starts running out of room for all her flowers, she’ll appreciate having balloons that don’t take up counter space!
Gift baskets are another pleasant surprise if you’re looking for an alternative to baby flowers. Many florists and gift stores put together helpful baskets full of baby care – or even mommy care – products that any new mom will appreciate. Or go with a theme like chocolate or bath products to help the new mom relax. Buying your gift basket from a professional means it will be nicely wrapped – presentation is an important part of gift baskets!
Whether you’re choosing flowers, balloons or gift baskets, it’s the sentiment that counts. Don’t forget to stop and chat so Mom has some company and offer to help out. She’s sure to appreciate it!
