Baby Shower Drinks
Once you have planned the baby shower food you want to serve, you can plan the drinks. Baby shower drink options are not as diverse, but there are plenty of options besides tea, coffee, juice, milk, and water.
The drinks you serve at a baby shower also depend on the time of day. If you are hosting an afternoon baby shower, tea, coffee, juice, milk, water, and punch are common baby shower drinks. If you are hosting a late afternoon or evening shower, you can provide a selection of alcoholic beverages, if the mom-to-be doesn't mind since she cannot partake herself.
The easiest way to serve baby shower drinks is to set up a punch bowl, a tea pot or coffee pot on the counter with a selection of glasses, tea cups, and mugs, and invite guests to serve themselves.
Punch is a staple baby shower drink and there are a variety of punches. Most punches involve juice and some sherbet or tea. A simple punch includes 1 can unsweetened pineapple juice, 1 can apricot nectar, 3 cans frozen lemonade, thawed and undiluted, and 5 (8 ounces) cans of chilled ginger ale. Mix the fruit juices, then just before the baby shower, gently mix in the chilled ginger ale. Add slices of pineapple and orange, cherries, and ice cubes.
For a special effect and to prevent the punch from diluting, pour the punch into an ice cube tray, add a cherry or a tiny plastic baby to a few cubes and freeze them – you have a quintessential baby shower drink!
A Simple Mint Julep punch is also easy to make. Wash ½ cup of mint leaves and place in a blender. Cut two lemons in half and microwave on high for 10 seconds. Squeeze the juice from the lemons into the blender. Add ½ cup sugar and mix until the mint is finely minced. Pour into a 1 gallon pitcher, fill the pitcher will chilled water and garnish with fresh mint leaves.
Whatever you decide to serve, make sure that it is easy for you to prepare or that you have some help. You don't want to plan an extravagant baby shower menu only to stress yourself out for the day or two leading up to the shower. Simple is elegant and can offer more variety. A well thought out menu will help make your baby shower a successful one.
